2557 AMG Transport Dynamics M-12B “Warthog” As depicted in Halo 4 (2012)

Designer: Bungie, Inc.

Builder: Aria Group

Based on: 2006 Hummer H1

In 2557, United Nations Space Command (UNSC) super-soldier Master Chief John-117 (Steve Downes) has crash landed on the ancient world Requiem. While responding to a distress signal, Chief accidentally awakens a warrior named the Didact (Keith Szarabajka) who holds a grudge against humanity and will stop at nothing to destroy them. While trying to stop the Didact from carrying out his destructive plans, Chief uses the Warthog to explore Requiem’s jungle-like terrain, an easy feat for the all-terrain vehicle.

To promote the release of the seventh installment in the Halo franchise, Halo 4, the Aria Group reverse engineered the Warthog on the chassis of an H1 Hummer. To accomplish this, 343 Industries shared gigabytes of data with Aria Group who built the vehicle over a six month period. In order to maintain its street legal status, the vehicle was designed to be 12% smaller than the in-game model. A 1996 Hummer H1 engine powers the vehicle to reach a top speed of 25 miles per hour.

The Warthog is the primary light tactical ground vehicle for the United Nations Space Command Armed Forces. It’s all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering, coupled with a hydrogen-injected internal combustion engine, make it highly mobile. Various optional components allow tailoring the vehicle to different missions, including support roles, armament transport, ambulance duties, and, its most common use, reconnaissance. The latter use sees the vehicle fitted with advanced surveillance and a turret-mounted machine gun for simple defense.
